Four Things Meme

Ooohhhhh how exciting, Linden just tagged me for this four things meme! Since it’s a public holiday here (HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!!!) I welcome the diversion. It’s the very first time I have been “tagged”! But I wonder if any of my responses will be a surprise to anybody? Linden talks about “favourites” as identity markers, and I can’t help but agree and to be analytical about it. The most interesting thing with this meme is that Linden changed it slightly from the person who tagged her, Steven, and he changed it slightly from the person who tagged him, mattrobin, and so on and on… so I wonder: is this a new sort of “transformative” meme - one that both replicates and transforms according to the identity of the replicator?

Because it’s a bit long, I’ll put it here:

Here it is, the four things meme, the Anya version:

  1. Great list Anya - very interesting read and links. I like that you went back and combined the memes to create your own! It was a bit of fun on the day, and also an interesting exercise as a retrospective I think.

  2. This turned out to be a lot of fun, even if I didn’t follow the leader. Have you ever watched schooling fish in an aquarium? There’s always one or two swimming the other way. That’s me - a herring. But thanks anyway, you keep me on my toes.

  3. Wow, many things I never knew about you! I studied Wild Swans for the HSC and what a wonderful book it is! But where did you flower pick? The only slightly offbeat job I have ever had was as a receptionist for a singing telegram company (and even then, I wished I had it in me to be a singing telegram!)

  4. Thanks for tagging me Linden, I found it fun! Karin I loved your response - it made me chuckle and I am amazed at your tracking back so far! Katy, I did the flower picking job for 5 months or so in Deloraine in Tasmania. I picked: irises, lillies, tulips, and a bunch of other stuff…. as well as sorting bulbs, weeding and spreading “dynamic lifter” (ugh!!) :>

If you changed his hair, he’d probably look like Jether.

Tis interesting. I don’t really get this meme thing, though, so I can’t really say I get what you were talking about. What’s tagged mean, anyway?

  7. Hi Tiana - “meme” just means an idea that replicates itself and turns up all over the place. For example, I am sure you’ve heard the phrase “All your base are belong to us” being used everywhere - that is a meme. The best memes I think are the ones like that Star Wars Kid - who had people everywhere taking his video and adding in different backgrounds to it. My all time favourite is “The Lost Frog” that I posted about here - where photoshoppers took the idea and played with it, and suddenly everybody knew about it, and lost frogs were turning up everywhere.

I don’t like equating it to chain letters because people do it for the fun of it and its optional. But “tagging” means you want to see how some of your friends decide to play with the meme too. I usually don’t tag people, but in this one I was curious to see what some of my friends would answer to the categories above - its a way of getting to know them better, because after all, EVERYTHING IS RELATED TO THE IDEA OF IDENTITY! *grin*
