So yesterday Jackie and I were talking about expats and what they ask their friends to send them from home, and I told her I was constantly sending my friends overseas packets of Tim Tams. Tim Tams are the most DIVINE Australian chocolate biscuit!

They come with various types of fillings and various types of chocolate coating.

My favourite is double coat because I am a chocoholic.
I also tried to explain to Jackie about the cultural phenomenon of the tim tam slam. I am convinced she thought I was making the entire story up but here is proof from wikipedia!!!
The Tim Tam Slam is the practice of drinking a beverage by sucking it through a Tim Tam, an Australian chocolate-covered biscuit. The practice is done by sucking through a Tim Tam with both ends bitten off. According to the Toxic Custard guide to Australia, this procedure is done as follows:
1. Prepare a cup of tea (or other hot or cold drink)
2. Remove the Tim Tam from the packet
3. Bite a small section off two diagonally opposite corners
4. Dip one corner into the drink
5. Suck on the other corner, which will mix the drink with little pieces of the biscuit
6. When the Tim Tam begins to fall apart in your hand, eat the whole biscuit
7. Obtain another Tim Tam from the packet and return to step 3
Now, just in case you still don’t believe me, here are some images of people engaged in the practice:

Now, the other food item I often have to send to friends is Milo, a chocolate flavoured drink:

It’s delicious! You can drink it cold, or you can drink it as a hot drink, and some people (like my sister Fiona) use it to make MILO TIM TAM SLAMS! *grin*

hehehe. i’ve always been an advocate of the ‘no hands slam’ - only for those set on advancing their ‘tea sucking skills’ to the next level. The idea being to use only the mouth (or gob, if you prefer) in the holding and sucking action. When the TT begins to collapse the ’sucker’ needs to work quickly to save the juicy buscuit mess. The ‘no hands slam’ can actually give you more sucking time as you don’t have to worry about hands getting in the way of crumbling bickies!
mmm I’m hungry …

Actually, I rarely drink Milo anymore. I now prefer the Tim Tams to go down with a hot mug of Jarrah’s Choc-o-lait. Yummo!

*laughing* The no-hand tim tam slam and the jarrah choc-o-lait tim tam slam… i wonder how many other variations there are?
Personally, I am a cadbury’s drinking chocolate person…

I also love Tim Tams… and have found a shop here that sells them!!! Sure - they cost almost £3 a pack (almost $$!!) but for that is justifiable as an occasional treat.

OMG! I just performed my first Tim Tam Slam because someone told me it was the “proper way to eat a Tim Tam” and it was AMAZING. Why don’t they sell these guys on MY continent?
